Art in the Garden Featival
returns Memorial Day Weekend
This festival is an exciting time for Harbin artists to show their work of the creative. This year at the festival in attendance will be everything from beaders and bonsai, clowns and crochet, sculpture and singers, photography and poetry, music and mandalas, dancing and drum circles, ritual and readings (psychic), fancy baked goods and vegan fair... even a kombucha and wheatgrass booth.
Our living art will come together in a glorious dance of color, music, hearts and hands, weaving together what it means to be in the premier exuberance of the Harbin art experience. And let’s not forget the Magic! At this year’s festival included is the fairy theme. Many will be dressed up as fairies, freaks, rainbow clowns, naked umbrella people, and maybe a crossdresser or two thrown in, and we invite you to dress up too. Please bring your children, as there will be face painting, a child’s art station, and play area.
The highlight of our festival will be a garden stage with live music, poetry, and drama. Saturday night will be brought in with live dance performance and a dance in the temple with DJ Puja. And please, don’t forget to bring some cash, as we will be hosting a plant sale to support our garden. There will be many beautiful plants propagated in our own greenhouse by our lovely garden goddesses themselves. Anything from succulents, flowers, veggies, perennials, and herbs. So, please, come join us with what we do best here at Harbin: participating in creation Memorial Day weekend in the Garden.

Repair Project Noise
Maintaining and renovating a century-old retreat center is a never-ending process. Buildings need paint, wood rots, pipes drip, doors creak, and trees fall. And then there are the self-created challenges like reviving the sauna and cold plunge. Each project comes with its share of expense, time, effort, and -- unfortunately – some inevitable noise.
Because repair projects tend to happen on weekdays, we ask that guests support us with their patience during this time. We are very conscious of the effect of noise on our retreat center guests, and every effort is made to minimize its impact. We appreciate your understanding.

Cell Tower Hearing
Coming Up on May 20, 2008
Harbin Springs has appealed to the Lake County Board of Supervisors to deny building of a cell tower by US Cellular on Harbin Springs Road. This Cell Tower will not only degrade the scenic view for the people visiting Harbin Springs, but will also expose them to unnecessary microwave radiation which is detrimental to human health. There is enough existing cell phone coverage in the Middletown Area.
If you are a Lake County Resident, Supervisors will especially appreciate your presence and be willing to listen to you. Please join us at the hearing which will take place on May 20, 2008, at 1:30 PM, at the Lakeport Court House, 255 N. Forbes Street, Lakeport. Middletown Area guests needing a ride should come to the front office by 12:15 PM.
